Abstract Submission Guidelines:

To submit an abstract, create an account in the online abstract submission portal.  

Also, please addinfo@kaigi.com.au, email domain to your safe senders list in your email settings, as all abstract related communications will be sent from this address.

You will have the option to select your preferred presentation type:


  • Poster Presentation
  • Free Paper or
  • No Preference


The scientific program committee encourage all submitters to consider selecting poster presentation when submitting an abstract. 


A key highlight of the AGW 2026 program will be the Poster Presentation Evening scheduled for 7.30 – 9.00 pm Sunday 30 August 2026

The event will include dedicated category sessions, food and beverages including the esteemed Poster of Merit session. 


Abstracts submitters must pay attention to the following:

 

  • It is the authors' responsibility to submit an accurate and complete abstract. Please proofread your abstract before submitting.
  • While some editing adjustments may bne made, the submitting author is responsibility for ensuring  all content and author information is correct.  
  • Authors can update abstracts after they have been submitted, but prior to the submission close date. Minimal changes may be accommodated after the close date but may not be reflected in the final published version. Significant changes should be made at the time of presentation.

General Abstract Submissions:

  • There is no cap on number of abstracts submitted by an investigator/applicant.
  • See fee structure below.
  • At the time of submitting your abstract, submission must include novel data, not already published in a peer reviewed journal.

YIA Abstract Submissions:

  • Only one (1) abstract per applicant may be submitted for this award.
  • The Investigator must choose a category for their research.
  • The Scientific Program Committee will then select the classification of either Basic/Translation Science or Clinical Reaearch.
  • (Note: Investigators may be an author on more than one abstract, but only one abstract will be considered for the GESA YIA).
  • Please note the Scientific Program Committee reserve the right to change your category.
  • At the time of submitting the abstract, submission must include novel data, not already published in a peer reviewed journal.
  • The Investigator is a current financial GESA member. To apply for membership or discover benefits of membership, click here.
  • YIA submissions must also include a % Contribution Statement, which can be downloaded here.

Submission Fees

  1. Submission cost (includes poster printing if applicable)
  2. $44.00 AUD (inc. GST) for all except
  3. $0 for Undergraduate Students or Full-Time PhD candidates (proof required)
  4. Publishing fee, Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology
  5. $55.00 AUD (inc. GST) publication is optional.

Payments must be made by credit card, in Australian dollars, at the time of submission in the GESA AGW Abstract portal. Non-payment will exclude abstract from consideration.

Abstracts are peer reviewed and rankes based on scientific merit. An average score below 25% is considered automatic rejection. You will be refunded your submission fee.

Case Reports

Planning to submit a case report?

Ensure the message or lesson it promotes is clearly state in the first paragraph. Ask yourself:

  • Is this a rare and therefore worthy condition to describe, or a common condition but with an unusual presentation?
  • Does it teach a lesson, e.g., increased awareness of a condition, diagnostic strategy or cost effective/sustainable approach?

Still unsure? Perhaps ask a mentor, senior colleague, or an AGW SPC member if the case study is unique and worthy of presentation.







Step 1: Author(s)

  • Enter the Name, Last Name, Title/Position, Department, Affiliation/Institution, City and Country information for all authors, and select the Presenting Author here. 
  • Enter the presenting author's contact details. Please ensure their email address is entered correctly as all communication regarding the abstract will be made sent to this address. 

Step 2: Categories

  • Select the abstract category amongst the listed categories. 
  • List of categories can be downloaded here.

Note: Young Investigators award (2 classifications – Clinical Research or Basic/Translational Science) research – if successful, the SPC will select which of the 2 x clasyour abstract belongs to.  


Step 3: Presentation

  • Select your preferred presentation type amongst the options of:
  • Poster presentation
  • Free paper or
  • No preference
  • Please note that the Scientific Program Committee reserves the right to change the presentation type according to the scientific program structure.

Step 4: Abstract

  • Download abstract template here (This template can be used for both YIA and General Submissions)
  • Abstract title, abstract text and keywords can be submitted in this section. 
  • Abstract title must be limited to 50 words, typed in lower case while the initial of the first word is written in capital. The titles should define the topic and must without abbreviations and NO full stop at the end of the title. 
  • Abstract text - excluding the authors, affiliations and titles - must be limited to 300 words (Font size: min 11pt) under the below given four (4) headings: 
  • Background 
  • Materials and Methods 
  • Results 
  • Conclusions 

Do not leave space between each sub-heading, write immediately after the subheading's semicolon and case reports should instead use the headings Introduction, Case Report and Conclusion.

  • Include units (preferably SI units) for any laboratory test results reported. 


FIGURES/IMAGES/TABLES

Please include essential figures, images and tables only, preferably limited to one figure OR one image OR one table per abstract. 

  • Figure/image/table must fit within the 1 (one) A4 page. 
  • Include a caption for each figure/image/table, and cite each figure/image/table in the text. 
  • Tables must be supplied in editable Word format, not as non-editable images. 


REFERENCES

References are generally not required; if essential, only include 1–3 references in brief format (e.g. 1 Healy B, et al. Foodborne Pathog. Dis. 2010; 7: 339–50.) and cite them in the text. 


  • Please make sure to save your work before logging off. You can save your work by clicking on the "Save and Preview" button. After saving, you'll be directed to the main page of abstract submission system where you can preview your abstract(s), and submit them. 
  • Minimal edits are allowed after submitting your abstract, however, please make sure to complete any edits and revisions before submitting your abstract. 
  • Make sure to submit your abstract before the abstract submission deadline of Sunday 10 May 2026

Review Process and Acceptance Letters

Kindly note that submitting an abstract does not constitute registration for the congress. 

Presenting authors of accepted abstracts must register for AGW 2026.

Publication of Abstracts 

To have your accepted abstract published, a fee of $55.00 AUD (inc GST) is payable at the time of submitting your abstract. Abstracts will be published in the supplement of the Journal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology with journal impact factor of 3.4 (June 2025).  

Young Investigator Awards  

Only one (1) abstract per applicant may be submitted for this award.

The Investigator must choose a category and the classification of either Basic /Translation

Science or Clinical Research will be selected by the Scientific Program Committee. 

The YIA Investigator must be a current financial GESA member. GESA Member information and how to join GESA can be found here About Membership.

Posters of Merit  

Specific awards will be granted for selected abstracts. More information will be provided in the coming weeks on this website.

International submitters:  

If you need a VISA to attend AGW 2026, please start the process as soon as possible, as the process maybe lengthy.
